{"id":416,"date":"2007-01-05T06:27:49","date_gmt":"2007-01-05T10:27:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/broadwayfillmorealive.org\/2.0\/2007\/01\/05\/reckless-abandon\/"},"modified":"2007-01-05T06:27:49","modified_gmt":"2007-01-05T10:27:49","slug":"reckless-abandon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/broadwayfillmorealive.org\/2.0\/2007\/01\/reckless-abandon\/","title":{"rendered":"Reckless Abandon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n<object height=250 width=325><param NAME=\"movie\" VALUE=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/BpEMq9_GGX8\"><param NAME=\"wmode\" VALUE=\"transparent\"><\/object><\/p>\n<p>For the most part\u2026we here at Broadway Fillmore Alive concentrate on the positive things happening in and around the B-F area.<\/p>\n<p>But\u2026<\/p>\n<p>There are times when I walk or cruise around the neighborhood and feel sad.\u00a0Yesterday I had a few extra minutes to drive through Broadway-Fillmore and was just astounded by the number of vacant and abandoned properties.\u00a0 I take my video camera with me almost everywhere I go and decided to spend a few minutes just shooting up some of the vacant places I drove by.<\/p>\n<p>Life moves by so fast\u2026I am in my old neighborhood so much that sometimes the impact of its decline escapes me.\u00a0Yesterday was a day that it did not.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>A lot of the streets in the video or places are where I grew up.\u00a0 It is hard to believe at times that it is the same neighborhood where I have many incredible memories.\u00a0 I am guessing that some of you reading this probably have similar thoughts at times.<\/p>\n<p>The positive twist here is that there are a bunch dedicated people with BFA, other groups, residents, etc. who work very hard to ensure that we keep fighting for the things that make B-F a distinctive and important part of Buffalo\u2019s fabric.\u00a0 It is good to look at what has happened\u2026both good and bad.<\/p>\n<p>As for abandoned properties, I am very encouraged by the <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.broadwayfillmorealive.org\/index.php?subaction=showfull&id=1163969005\" target=_blank>Blueprint for Buffalo<\/a><\/i> initiative that will help create a region-wide effort to tackle the problem.\u00a0 This effort will coordinate various groups throughout the city to work on a plan for vacant properties\u2026good stuff.<\/p>\n<p>(here is <a href=\"http:\/\/broadwayfillmorealive.org\/media\/r.wmv\" target=_self>Windows Media<\/a> version of video\u2026loFI)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For the most part\u2026we here at Broadway Fillmore Alive concentrate on the positive things happening in and around the B-F area.
