(Brian Meyer- Buffalo News – 01\/22\/09) The Broadway Market hopes to extend the length of its Easter shopping season by staging more events and trying to land some unusual vendors.<\/p>\n

A task force that has been working to revitalize the ailing public market is also asking for some temporary help from City Hall.<\/p>\n

Buffalo officials confirmed Wednesday that they are weighing a request to use public funding to hire an events coordinator for activities over the next few months.<\/p>\n

The Easter season is the busiest time of year for the city-owned facility. Depending on the estimates, between 200,000 and 300,000 people typically visit the market over a two-week period in spring.<\/p>\n

Marketers hope to expand the season to four weeks by sponsoring a series of events, bringing in temporary vendors and aggressively promoting the efforts.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we could even get a small percentage of our Easter customers to show up twice instead of once during the season, this would have a significant impact,\u201d said Martin Biniasz, chairman of the city task force. The panel has more than 20 members, many trying to promote business on the East Side.<\/p>\n
