<\/p>\nThis past Saturday as part of the Dozynki Harvest Festival we celebrated the 10th annual Buffalo\u2019s Best Pierogi contest at Corpus Christi. Being to the event as a spectator a few years ago, I was a little jealous of the judges who had the opportunity to try a variety of traditional and non traditional pierogi\u2019s from some of the best pierogi makers, thinking one day it would be really cool if I could be a judge.<\/p>\n
Flash forward to this past weekend and there I was sitting at the judges table (it\u2019s crazy how things happen sometimes). I went in really not knowing what to expect, all I knew was I was going to be tasting a variety of pierogi. I made some friends at my table, all offering advice and tips on being a judge, sharing stories about the neighborhood and their connection to it. At the end of it I had tried six different pierogi, all very good, but different. It was neat to see the different presentations and the creativity that came with each one.<\/p>\n
For me what I took away from this experience was not only about tasting pierogi, but it was a really nice afternoon spent in the heart of the east side of Buffalo enjoying the blessings we have. It was time that I was able to share some of my stories with others and listen to them.\u00a0 I even introduced some of my friends who have never been to Corpus Christi the chance to see the beauty that still exists in the neighborhood.<\/p>\n
