Yesterday, Andrew\u00a0Go\u0142\u0119biowski posted a photo on Facebook<\/a> of a contracting crew outside of the former Transfiguration church on Sycamore Street<\/a>. It looked like the workers were prepping for demolition. This photo and others were shared around Facebook, which led to a lot of speculation as to what exactly was going on with the building.<\/p>\n

The good news is that Transfiguration is not going to be demolished. A few hours after the initial speculation, word came via Facebook from Jessie Fischer of Preservation Buffalo Niagara.<\/p>\n

From Facebook<\/a>:<\/p>\n

Ok confirmed: several weeks ago, the city felt they might need to do an emergency demo, however, Steve Karnath and I have been working hard to convince them that the only immediate threat was the cupola. We got a small emergency grant from the National Trust and Kevin Connors did an engineering evaluation confirming that this is the only part of the building posing a public issue.<\/p>\n

The City agreed with our assessment and used their emergency funds to do the cupola removal and is currently shoring the roof in this area.<\/p>\n

There will be no demo here today!<\/p>\n

Steve and I are also working on a new ownership and maintenance structure for the building, so if you know anyone who has a use for a super cool old church, have them contact me<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It would have been nice for the city to let us know if advance that the crews were out, but altogether this is a win.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
