The Buffalo Mass Mob is coming to Saint Luke\u2019s Mission of Mercy on Sunday, January 10, 2016. This marks the fourteenth time the local group is staging one its Mass Mobs to raise awareness of historic houses of worship in the city of Buffalo. The concept is like a flash mob. Buffalo Mass Mob invites people via social media to come worship at a church they select.<\/p>\n
Amy Betros and Norm Paolini opened the mission in 1994 a year after the Buffalo Diocese closed the former Saint Luke\u2019s Roman Catholic Church. Saint Luke\u2019s Mission of Mercy occupies the entire church campus and runs a number of ministries serving the poor and others.<\/p>\n
Buffalo Mass Mob was established in 2013. The effort has drawn thousands of people to historic city churches and raised almost a hundred-thousand dollars for these houses of worship. The Mass Mob movement, started in Buffalo, has been duplicated by over twenty cities across the United States. It has garnered national and international press.<\/p>\n
Buffalo Mass Mob XIV begins at 1:00 pm. There will be tours of the mission complex after Mass. The mass mob group is asking people coming to bring items to help bolster the mission\u2019s Code Blue program. The mission serves as one of the emergency warming sites in the city for people who need a place to stay when the weather gets below freezing. Items that people are being asked to bring for donation are: winter jackets, hats, gloves, socks, boots, blankets, and other items you might need if you were out in the cold.
