Corpus Christi Church is once again looking for Buffalo\u2019s best pierogi. This historic east side church is hosting its eighth annual Buffalo\u2019s Best Pierogi contest on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 4:30p.m. The contest is open to all amateur cooks and businesses.<\/p>\n

The contest is the centerpiece of Corpus Christi\u2019s 36th annual Do\u017cynki (pronounced Do-ZHIN-kee) Polish Harvest Festival on Saturday and Sunday, September 19 and 20. Christopher Byrd, the contest organizer, says the event \u201cCaptures Buffalo\u2019s love for food and while celebrating our city\u2019s rich ethnic heritage with recipes and traditions passed on from one generation to the next. The contest draws people from all of Western New York. Buffalonians have incredible passion for their pierogi.\u201d<\/p>\n

People who wish to enter the contest can online by visiting the church\u2019s website www.CorpusChristiBuffalo.org or by contacting the rectory at (716) 896-1050. The deadline for entries is Monday, September\u00a014, 2015.<\/p>\n

Applicants will be judged in one of four following categories:<\/p>\n

Homemade Traditional \u2013 boiled or fried pierogi filled with cheese, cheese\/potato or kapusta (pickled or fresh cabbage) with or without mushrooms, carrots, etc.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Homemade Non-Traditional \u2013 open to entrant\u2019s creativity, keeping in mind that a pierog is a stuffed pocket of dough.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Commercial \u2013 open to any business using a traditional recipe<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dessert \u2013 pierogi made as a desert open to entrant\u2019s creativity.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

A group of celebrity judges will determine the winners for the contest. Winners in each category will walk away with the title of Buffalo\u2019s Best Pierogi Maker.<\/p>\n

Corpus Christi Church was founded in 1898 and is located in the heart of East Buffalo\u2019s Historic Polonia. It is on the state and national lists of historic sites.<\/p>\n
