{"id":16352,"date":"2015-05-07T23:49:04","date_gmt":"2015-05-08T03:49:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/broadwayfillmorealive.org\/2.0\/?p=16352"},"modified":"2015-05-07T23:50:54","modified_gmt":"2015-05-08T03:50:54","slug":"kavinoky-theatre-has-broadway-fillmore-roots","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/broadwayfillmorealive.org\/2.0\/2015\/05\/kavinoky-theatre-has-broadway-fillmore-roots\/","title":{"rendered":"Kavinoky Theater has Broadway-Fillmore Roots"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While flipping through the 50th anniversary book for Corpus Christi Church from 1948 looking for an old Spolka clothing store ad, I stopped when I came across an ad for <a href=\"http:\/\/pgsnys.org\/research\/databases-and-local-resources\/polish-midwives\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kavinoky\u2019s Pharmacy which was located at 1061\u00a0Broadway<\/a>. With a little internet research I was able tie together a link between\u00a0D\u2019Youville College\u2019s Kavinoky Theatre and Kavinoky\u2019s Pharmacy in the neighborhood.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kavinokytheatre.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">The\u00a0Kavinoky Theater<\/a> was named after Attorney Edward Kavinoky. He was the first lay\u00a0Chairman of the Board of Trustees of D\u2019Youville College. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kavinokycook.com\/our-firm\" target=\"_blank\">After he died, the college named its theatre after him<\/a>. His father, Dr. Samuel Kavinoky, owned Kavinoky\u2019s Pharmacy on Broadway.<\/p>\n<p>The ad included here says 1095 Broadway. But from all the research, 1061 Broadway was the address listed from numerous resources. The ad also says it is on the corner of Broadway and Sears.
