href=\"http:\/\/www.buffalogerman.com\/\">WNY German-American Heritage Festival<\/a>\u00a0in Cheektowaga, one of the first things that caught my eye was a table spread with recent issues of the\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/germancitizen.newspaper\">German Citizen<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0 The Summer, 2013 issue has an article entitled, \u201cWhy Saving St. Ann\u2019s Church and Shrine Matters,\u201d by Martin Ederer.\u00a0 Martin Ederer is a professor of history at Buffalo State, and co-chair of the St. Ann\u2019s Church and Shrine Revitalization Committee.\u00a0 A decade ago, he also wrote the great\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.buffaloah.com\/h\/ederer\/ederer.html\">Buffalo\u2019s Catholic Churches: Ethnic Communities and the Architectural Legacy<\/a><\/em>, a go-to source for historic research.<\/p>\n<p>It turns out that the\u00a0<em>German Citizen<\/em>, \u201ca newspaper serving the German-Americans of of Upstate New York,\u201d is published by the organizer of the heritage festival, Herbert Schmidt III.\u00a0 I talked with Herbert Schmidt and his marketing director, Gregory Witul, and got permission to reprint Ederer\u2019s article here, for which I\u2019m grateful.\u00a0 I also found out that free copies of the\u00a0<em>German Citizen<\/em>\u00a0are distributed to all the public libraries in Buffalo, four times a year (also available by subscription).\u00a0 Schmidt and Witul also told me that they will soon be increasing their publishing frequency to every other month.\u00a0 See this\u00a0<a
