I had heard that the Broadway Market would be open until 3 p.m. on Christmas Eve. My mother and I decided to pay a visit after noon Mass at St. Stanislaus. Much to our dismay, when we entered at 1:15 p.m., the market was empty and the vendors were packing up to leave. “No customers!” they said.
Some people have reservations about shopping on a Sunday (or, for that matter, shopping on Christmas Eve), and that is understandable. But for me, today’s scene at the Market was all too familiar – it is how the place often looks when I visit at any time other than Easter. If we want this market to persist and develop, we need to support it all year round.
Merry Christmas to you all!
