Binghamton again Capital of the Pierogy Pocket

Well, Buffalo lost out again to Binghamton…back to the drawing board.

I say a HUGE PIEROGI FESTIVAL ON TOP OF THE BROADWAY MARKET NEXT SUMMER!  Anyone with me!?!?!??!

Capital of the Pierogy Pocket 2009
Binghamton, NY
Binghamton, New York is the reigning Capital of the Pierogy Pocket of America, a title bestowed on them and St. Michael Greek Catholic Church in November 2007. The church and its parishioners are true passionate pierogy fans. This year, they held their 44th annual Lenten Pirohi Project, inspired and guided by America’s Pirohi King, Fr. Stephen Dutko. Over 15,000 dozen pierogies were made and sold to benefit the church and its community outreach programs. Over the course of many events and functions, St. Michael’s raised funds and gathered signatures (over 1,500!), hoping to repeat as this year’s champion. If they do retain the title, St. Michael’s will again donate the prize money to the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW), which annually distributes over 2 million pounds of food to district pantries.

Congratulations to Binghamton!

I thought Corpus Christi and Buffalo had a shot.
