A special Happy Thanksgiving to the all the people out there in BFA land…

A lot of you who check in here everyday or help keep neighborhood ALIVE are what I am thankful for today.

It never ceases to amaze me the number of truly incredible people I have met since I got involved in neighborhood.

Every year at St. Luke’s, we have a major Food Giveaway at Thanksgiving time. This year we are giving away 2,200 bundles of food – each bundle consists of two bags of dry / canned goods including rolls, potatoes, vegetables, macaroni & cheese, cookies, etc. Each bundle also consists of a bag of perishable items including meat, butter, milk, frozen desserts, etc. God is so good! All of these items are either donated or purchased with funds that were donated. The food giveaway is an awesome thing to witness and an even more incredible thing to be a part of!

Here is the calendar of events for the 2010 Thanksgiving Food Giveaway:

• Sat. 20th – 9:30 AM – 5:00 PM – Packing for Food Giveaway @ St. Luke’s Mission of Mercy

I checked in with Sister Johnice Director of the Response to Love Center yesterday to see if they need anything for their Thanksgiving dinner next week.

From Sister J:

For Thanksgiving Day meal, we could use large turkeys that we will be roasting for our dinner. Smaller turkeys are not as practical for the large number of people we will be serving on that day. (16 to 20+ LBS.) Also, juices, coffee stuffing, cranberries, chicken broth would be an added gift for us…

The Response to Love Center serves their dinner from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm on Thanksgiving to those from the neighborhood who need it most.  I’ve volunteered there on Thanksgiving and it is a wake up call to see the volume and different types of people come through the doors…families, elderly,  disabled, etc.
