I checked in with Sister Johnice Director of the Response to Love Center yesterday to see if they need anything for their Thanksgiving dinner next week.

From Sister J:

For Thanksgiving Day meal, we could use large turkeys that we will be roasting for our dinner. Smaller turkeys are not as practical for the large number of people we will be serving on that day. (16 to 20+ LBS.) Also, juices, coffee stuffing, cranberries, chicken broth would be an added gift for us…

The Response to Love Center serves their dinner from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm on Thanksgiving to those from the neighborhood who need it most.  I’ve volunteered there on Thanksgiving and it is a wake up call to see the volume and different types of people come through the doors…families, elderly,  disabled, etc.

Sister Johnice Rzadkiewicz, founder and director of the Response to Love Center on Buffalo’s East Side, will be honored with the Father Baker Service to Youth Award at the 29th annual Friends of Father Baker Reception at 6:30 tonight in the Hyatt Regency Buffalo.

The reception is part of the Friends of Father Baker Campaign, which supports the projects of Baker Victory Services, which assist more than 3,500 people annually. This year’s goal is $175,000. For tickets and donations, call Cassandra Okon at 828-9289.

With winter knocking on our doors, places like B-F’s Response to Love Center need our help.

Since 1985, the Center is dedicated to helping poverty-stricken individuals and families. People of all ages, races, genders, ethnicity, religion and cultural backgrounds are welcomed at the Center.

Every year the Response to Love Center on Buffalo’s East provides a hot dinner to hundreds of people on Christmas Christmas morning the doors open at 10:30am to everyone. An army of volunteers will serve coffee, Chicken Kiev, all the trimmings, dessert and seconds if desired. With the current economic conditions, this year we served record amount of people on Thanksgiving Day. We see more
working poor, homeless and families in need of services.

Our desire is to provide a friendly warm meal on Christmas Day.
