Next Sunday is Second Sunday in Broadway-Fillmore

As part of an ongoing effort to get people to attend a B-F church at least every second of the month throughout the year, here are two churches that are having great events next weekend in the neighborhood.

Saint Adalbert Basilica is having their annual Kolędy Concert & Mass next weeked.

Corpus Christi Church is rededicating its Disputa Mural with a Mass and celebration next weekend as well.

Public Invited to Rededication, Expert's Presentationon the Mural's Significance & Restoration

Both events highlight the importance of these incredible churches as not only treasures for the neighborhood, but Buffalo and Western New York as well.

Special shout out to the Am-Pol Eagle for this:

Last week we reported that Broadway Fillmore Alive is starting a program called Second Sundays in Broadway Fillmore. It is an effort to encourage people to support the East Side’s historic churches. They are calling on Polonia and the community at large to pick one of the churches in the neighborhood every second Sunday of the month and attend Mass there.

Churches that are a part of Second Sundays include: Corpus Christi Church, St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr, St. Ann’s, St. John Kanty, St. Luke’s Mission of Mercy and St. Adalbert Basilica.

We think this is a great idea to build attendance and revitalize the parishes that meant so much to so many for so long. We applaud the organizers and hope they continue to promote this idea.

The Am-Pol Eagle is one of the neighborhood’s biggest supporters and do a lot to help keep it A L I V E!

Though two churches were featured in this post, I encourage you to support any in the neighborhood.

Chip In and Let’s Raise $100 for Saint Luke’s Mission of Mercy

(Is through PayPal)

BFA is trying to raise $100.00 for Saint Luke’s Mission of Mercy before 11/18/2011 to aid in what the mission does around the holiday season. If we raise more, the better.

The internet is one heck of a powerful tool. I have used ChipIn only as a donor before and have been thinking about a way to use it on BFA to help with organizations around the neighborhood…Saint Luke’s Mission of Mercy is definitely a place to help out and good place to start to see if I can use the power of BFA to help out.

ChipIn is great…you can give any amount…$1.00, $2.75, $5.00, $10.00 or whatever.

If you don’t know about what Saint Luke’s does, visit their website—>

I also love this article on Buffalo Rising that really captures the essence of what they do—>

Please consider donating…the close date on the ChipIn is 11/18.

Second Sundays in Broadway-Fillmore

Second Sundays (click on image for full view)

Over the years, I have heard many people tell their tales about how sad they are about places in the neighborhood that have closed or have been torn down, etc.

Each of us though has an opportunity to make a difference in the future of B-F’s treasures.  It is as simple as supporting them more.

While I have been contemplating the recent merger of Saint Adalbert Basilica and Saint John Kanty and how it has left the basilica essentially quiet every Sunday now, I came up with the idea of Second Sundays in Broadway-Fillmore.

The idea is simple enough…come to church at one of B-F’s historic and beautiful churches every second Sunday of a month during the course of the year.

As anyone at any of the churches will tell you, we need more people to attend.

If you want to see these glorious embodiments of faith saved, support them regularly.

I hope I am not sounding too preachy.

The effort here is to help sustain these churches for future generations.

Far too often in Buffalo’s history we have let our history be relegated to “I wish this place or that place was still round” without any way to help or turn back the clock.  Well, you can help here. Come to B-F for church at least once a month!

It is a simple but valuable way to make a difference in protecting B-F’s ethnic and architectural heritage.

Going forward, I will repost this about a week before second Sunday.

Amen…

The churches.
