One Night and Seven Churches 2012 Photos

(click on images for full view)

I love this quote on BFA’s Facebook page by Bill Blake:

We took part in the Seven Churches tour last evening and it was spectacular! These churches and the people that still support them are the hidden gems of Buffalo. If you haven’t done this I would highly encourage everyone to get down to them this weekend and continue to support them….spread the word!!

Amen!

For me, I tried not to take too many pictures last night.  Sometimes I just need to experience nights like this not looking through a lens.

Here is a YNN story on the night—>

One Night and Seven Churches Holy Thursday, 04/05/2012

For the sixth year in a row on Holy Thursday, Broadway Fillmore Alive has put together a self-guided tour of seven historic churches in the Broadway-Fillmore area partaking in the traditional visitation of the Blessed Sacrament on this holy night. Holy Thursday is on April 05, 2012.

Churches on this year’s tour include: Corpus Christi, Saint Ann, Saint Stanislaus, Saint Luke’s Mission of Mercy, Saint Adalbert Basilica, Saint John Kanty and Saint Clare.

The visitation period generally begins after 7:00 pm and the churches remain open till around 11:00 pm.

In our first year, we had about 50 requests for the tour info. The number of requests over the last few years has risen to over 500.

The churches in Buffalo’s historic Polonia are awe inspiring and are deeply rooted in tradition. This is a way to experience their religious, artistic and cultural beauty while spending some time in prayer and reflection in this most sacred time of year on the Roman Catholic calendar. It also provides an opportunity for people who want to explore all these architectural gems on one night.

This Sunday is Second Sunday in Broadway Fillmore

This Sunday is Second Sunday in Broadway-Fillmore.  Second Sundays is an effort to get people to come down to one of the neighborhood’s beautiful and historic churches at least one a month to help support them.

You can read more about this effort by clicking here—>

This month we are featuring Corpus Christi Church’s 11:30am Mass on Sunday.  The Mass will feature the official book launch of “Adorned in Light: The Stained Glass of Corpus Christi Church” and book signing by its author Greg Witul.  For more info, click here—>

Even if you can”t make it down for this Mass, you can come down and attend our other churches.

Next Sunday is Second Sunday in Broadway-Fillmore

As part of an ongoing effort to get people to attend a B-F church at least every second of the month throughout the year, here are two churches that are having great events next weekend in the neighborhood.

Saint Adalbert Basilica is having their annual Kolędy Concert & Mass next weeked.

Corpus Christi Church is rededicating its Disputa Mural with a Mass and celebration next weekend as well.

Public Invited to Rededication, Expert's Presentationon the Mural's Significance & Restoration

Both events highlight the importance of these incredible churches as not only treasures for the neighborhood, but Buffalo and Western New York as well.

Special shout out to the Am-Pol Eagle for this:

Last week we reported that Broadway Fillmore Alive is starting a program called Second Sundays in Broadway Fillmore. It is an effort to encourage people to support the East Side’s historic churches. They are calling on Polonia and the community at large to pick one of the churches in the neighborhood every second Sunday of the month and attend Mass there.

Churches that are a part of Second Sundays include: Corpus Christi Church, St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr, St. Ann’s, St. John Kanty, St. Luke’s Mission of Mercy and St. Adalbert Basilica.

We think this is a great idea to build attendance and revitalize the parishes that meant so much to so many for so long. We applaud the organizers and hope they continue to promote this idea.

The Am-Pol Eagle is one of the neighborhood’s biggest supporters and do a lot to help keep it A L I V E!

Though two churches were featured in this post, I encourage you to support any in the neighborhood.

Chip In and Let’s Raise $100 for Saint Luke’s Mission of Mercy

(Is through PayPal)

BFA is trying to raise $100.00 for Saint Luke’s Mission of Mercy before 11/18/2011 to aid in what the mission does around the holiday season. If we raise more, the better.

The internet is one heck of a powerful tool. I have used ChipIn only as a donor before and have been thinking about a way to use it on BFA to help with organizations around the neighborhood…Saint Luke’s Mission of Mercy is definitely a place to help out and good place to start to see if I can use the power of BFA to help out.

ChipIn is great…you can give any amount…$1.00, $2.75, $5.00, $10.00 or whatever.

If you don’t know about what Saint Luke’s does, visit their website—>

I also love this article on Buffalo Rising that really captures the essence of what they do—>

Please consider donating…the close date on the ChipIn is 11/18.
