Thank you Greg Witul for the photos!!!

The Am-Pol Eagle’s Citizens of the Year ceremony took place on Saturday, 04/21 at the historic basilica along with a Mass honoring all the recipients and celebrating Saint Adalbert’s feast day.

Two great Masses to attend in B-F this weekend

Mass One

Saint Adalbert Basilica gets to open up its doors for a few hours on Saturday at 5:30pm to celebrate its namesake’s feast day and to honor all the Am-Pol Eagle’s Citizens of the Year.

Saint Adalbert Basilica’s parishioners as a group were selected as one of the citizens of the year for their hard work and dedication in keeping the basilica ALIVE!

Mass Two

Saint Ann’s is hosting its annual German Mass on Sunday at 10:00am.

This annual event celebrates the church and shrine’s German origins and heritage, and the contributions of Buffalo’s German Catholics to the WNY community.

Celebrate the Feast of Saint Adalbert @ the Basilica on Saturday!

This is a great opportunity to worship in one of Broadway-Fillmore’s beautiful churches and support the basilica.

Saint Adalbert Basilica will also be honoring the Am-Pol Eagle Citizens of the Year during the Mass.

One Night and Seven Churches 2012 Photos

(click on images for full view)

I love this quote on BFA’s Facebook page by Bill Blake:

We took part in the Seven Churches tour last evening and it was spectacular! These churches and the people that still support them are the hidden gems of Buffalo. If you haven’t done this I would highly encourage everyone to get down to them this weekend and continue to support them….spread the word!!

Amen!

For me, I tried not to take too many pictures last night.  Sometimes I just need to experience nights like this not looking through a lens.

Here is a YNN story on the night—>

One Night and Seven Churches Holy Thursday, 04/05/2012

For the sixth year in a row on Holy Thursday, Broadway Fillmore Alive has put together a self-guided tour of seven historic churches in the Broadway-Fillmore area partaking in the traditional visitation of the Blessed Sacrament on this holy night. Holy Thursday is on April 05, 2012.

Churches on this year’s tour include: Corpus Christi, Saint Ann, Saint Stanislaus, Saint Luke’s Mission of Mercy, Saint Adalbert Basilica, Saint John Kanty and Saint Clare.

The visitation period generally begins after 7:00 pm and the churches remain open till around 11:00 pm.

In our first year, we had about 50 requests for the tour info. The number of requests over the last few years has risen to over 500.

The churches in Buffalo’s historic Polonia are awe inspiring and are deeply rooted in tradition. This is a way to experience their religious, artistic and cultural beauty while spending some time in prayer and reflection in this most sacred time of year on the Roman Catholic calendar. It also provides an opportunity for people who want to explore all these architectural gems on one night.

Change at Saint Adalbert Basilica and Saint John Kanty

Got word over the weekend that parishioners at Saint John Kanty/Saint Adalbert Basilica were informed at Masses that Father Thaddeus Bocianowski would no longer be the pastor of both.

Father Ronald Baginski will assume the pastor role.

No explanation was given for the change that will take effect this coming Saturday.

Father Baginski has been celebrating Masses at both churches since Father Thaddeus became pastor of Saint Adalbert Basilica, Saint Stainislaus and Saint John Kanty.

Although I have been in Saint Adalbert Basilica countless times, the beauty of the church still hits me like it is the first time I am ever seeing it.  One word, awe.
