BFA wants to build an online gallery of old neighborhood photos…
If you have any photos you would like to share with us, we will make arrangements to have them scanned and placed on our site. You can also send us photos you may have already scanned.
The photos can be of virtually anything related to the neighborhood…events, people, places, buildings, schools, etc.
When I say old, even pictures from the early 2000s, 90s, 80s are fine…
If you have something you want us to take a look at and share, contact BFA at broadwayfillmore@gmail.com.
A MOST BEAUTIFUL CEREMONY of accepting the school children of St. Adalbert’s Parish into the “Holy Childhood Association” was held in the Basilica last Thursday at 2 p.m. Rev. Fr. Tadeusz Głowacki, the Pastor’s assistant, led the acceptance ceremony and the blessing of badges.
There are various reasons why Buffalo streets are named the way they are. A lot of the names come from the developers who helped build the neighborhood.
Take for instance the streets off Broadway while you head east under the rail bridge near Memorial Drive. They all have have distinctive German names. The reason for this is that a group of German developers purchased much of this land in the 1890s…Edward L. and Frank Koons, Robert C. Titus, and Frank Goodyear. This group saw Polonia expanding and took off where Joseph Bork left off.
The names will sound familiar to people because they have streets named after them in succession. My guess is that they did this unpurpose.
You can click on the image above to get a feel for the area I writing about and note the German names.
