Video: Pulaski Parade – 07/18/2010

Excerpt from parade on Sunday features B-F faves Saint Adalbert Basilica, Saint Stanislaus Church, Corpus Christi Church & Dyngus Day Buffalo.

Video: Dyngus Day Leftovers…the parade

The live video stream of the parade went incredibly well…a lot of viewers during the broadcast…except…there is always a except when it comes to some of the things I do in B-F…the service used to broadcast video only saved 27 minutes of the parade…what do you want for nothing. I was waiting to see if they could recover the lost video…they couldn’t.

So it goes…enjoy!

And more Dyngus Day…

This video captures the Dyngus Day Parade experience for me…it comes courtesy BFA friends and Broadway Market mainstays Mirella and Ed Jablonski of JABCO General Store fame!!! This was taken from their float in the parade…from all reports, they also had some the best stuff coming from parade participants this year by tossing out t-shirts, frisbees and other assorted good stuff. My four year old got a frisbee :-) !

Dyngus Day is one of the few days during the year that I put away the BFA camera for the most part and just enjoy…that is exactly what I did yesterday!

There were people everywhere in B-F last night…it was simply amazing.

Dyngus Day caps off the Easter Season and the busiest time of year in B-F.  The last few weeks were full of so much energy for Historic Polonia.

The efforts of Dyngus Day Buffalo to turn the day after Easter into the event it has become have paid off magnificently…they have turned what was celebrated in small pockets around WNY to something incredible…if you were in the neighborhood last night, you know what I am talking about!!!

Alive!

Thanks Mike for passing the along the photos!  http://responsetolove.org

Dyngus Day Begins with a Blessing at Corpus Christi

(By Andrew Golebiowski – CCC) This year’s East Side Dyngus Day festivities will be preceeded by an Easter Monday Mass at Corpus Christi Church. Fr. Mateusz Wydmanski, pastor of Corpus Christi Church, welcomes all visitors to the Historic Polonia District to “start the day right” by thanking the Lord in the beautiful landmark church located at 199 Clark St. during an 11:30 a.m. Mass.

Across the world, Easter Monday marks the second day of Easter Week and is a work-free holiday. With the increasing popularity of Dyngus Day in Buffalo, the local populace may be “voting with their feet” and enjoying the day. For the past few years, Corpus Christi has been part of this movement, seeing an increase in attendance at its mid-day Easter Monday Mass.

Immediately following the Mass, a Dyngus Day Luncheon will be held in the Parish Athletic Center on Sears St. Ample parking will be available in the Church parking lot between Clark and Sears Sts. The Church is located at 199 Clark St., one block east of the Broadway Market.

Buffalo News: Planting for plenitude of pussy willows

I just love this time of year in B-F…an incredible amount of media attention…ALIVE!

Two years ago, a paucity of pussy willows threatened to put the kibosh on Buffalo’s annual Dyngus Day celebration.

Remember? Frigid weather delayed the budding process, raising the possibility that there wouldn’t be enough locally grown switches for girls to swat boys with during the flirting ritual that highlights the traditional Polish day-after-Easter observance. Branches were imported from great distances to meet the surging demand.

Vowing to nip future shortages in the bud, Dyngus Day Buffalo organizers gathered Saturday near Central Terminal to plant five bushes in what was christened Pussy Willow Park.
