Where in the world are the Central Terminal’s lamps?

(Derek Punaro – CTRC) Some of the most beloved features of the Central Terminal – it’s various art deco lamps – are the most sorely missed by those who come back and see the building today. The CTRC regularly keeps track of artifacts that came from the building, and it’s been known for several years that some of our lamps ended up in a chain of restaurants called the Cafe Deco in Hong Kong. We’ve had several people visit the restaurants and take numerous photos and even measurements of the lamps to help us in their eventual recreation.

Thirty years ago today, October 28th 1979 ,was the last time a regularly scheduled passenger train by AMTRAK stopped at @CentralTerminal.

Derek Punaro: Memories of Mike Miller

Last Thursday, our good friend Mike Miller passed away. Many people knew Mike from the work he did for the Buffalo Central Terminal, Broadway Fillmore Alive, and most recently Preservation Buffalo Niagara. We knew Mike first as a friend, and a great advocate for Wesern New York second.

You often hear people say, “He’s the nicest guy you’ll ever meet” about a person. With Mike, this was genuinely the truth. I’ve never known another individual to be so selfless, so caring, and so genuine in everything he said and did. That was Mike – always quick to point out a person’s redeeming qualities when others might not see them. Always the level-headed mediator. Always willing to give people the benefit of the doubt.

BFA friend Derek Punaro recently sold one of his photographs for us as a book cover…photograph was of Corpus Christi Church.

Back in July of last year, I was at the Central Terminal with my camera when we had one of those odd weather days that resulted in a fabulous sunset. I posted the photos up on my blog and on flickr. My favorite shot of the evening was this silhouette of Corpus Christi against a fantastic orange sunset.
