I had the opportunity today to witness the removal of Corpus Christi Church’s south tower dome today. The dome was removed as part of the restoration process for the entire tower. The dome is going to be fully restored on-site.
For those of us who have worked very hard to raise money to restore Corpus Christi and support the church, a day like today is absolutely incredible and a testament to how far Corpus Christi has come since it almost closed in 2004.
Before that storm, roof replacement was already on the list of projects to complete for the church…the storm accelerated the restoration process and a new slate roof is in place.
The roof is just one of many projects that are part of restoring the church campus on Clark and Sears Streets.

The Rose Window is an exquisite stained glass depiction of St. Cecelia, patroness of church musicians, and the Coronation of the Blessed Mother. It is one of the largest Rose Windows in the Buffalo Diocese and may be the only one set in stone rather than the more commonly used wood framing.
The representation of the Holy Spirit in the center of the window is an exact duplicate of the one that sits above the throne of St. Peter in the Vatican Basilica. It is beyond question one of the most beautiful stained glass windows in Western New York. Read More →
