B-F Pics of the Day 03/31/2010: Famous Horseradish at the Market

(click on images for full view)

Though I love a lot of the vendors in the Market, the Famous Horseradish stand is one I truly treasure.

From their horseradish offerings to their homemade sauerkraut to their pickles to their vegetables, the Famous Horseradish stand symbolizes everything good about 999 Broadway.

If you are lucky, you might catch Wanda or Zen, the  proprietress and proprietor, preparing the sauerkraut or their incredible horseradish while visiting the Market.

Spruce up the Market on Sunday

On Sunday March 7th, the Broadway Market is having a painting party to spruce it up before the Easter season.

If you can help, send an email to buffalobroadwaymarket@gmail.com by Thursday so enough supplies can on hand.

Shop at the Market

I know I am probably preaching to the B-F choir here, but sometimes we get people from outside the choir tuning in.

Want a break from your weekly shopping routine, stop at the Market this weekend.

There is a new Indian food cafe…yum…fresh sauerkraut at the Famous Horseradish Stand…yum…fresh rye bread and placzek from either White Eagle or EM Chrusciki…yum…some cool t-shirts to be had a JABCO General Store…do I need to go on?!?!

Plus…it is all LOCAL.

Flower POWER

(click on pictures for full view)

I like to say that is the culmination of small things which make the biggest difference with B-F…ok…the big things help too, but that is besides the point.

On Sunday (06/07), members of the Friends of the Broadway Market and the Broadway Market Tenants Associaton got together to plant some flowers in and around the planters located by the Market.

The folks sent the above pictures along.

What they did was saw a need and acted to make a difference…planting flowers and cleaning up some planters may seem like a small thing to do, but their efforts will help welcome people to B-F in a subtle and beautiful way.

$1 million dollar bond approved for Broadway Market

broadway-markettn

A $3.1 million bond sale was approved by the city yesterday.

Part of the $3.1 million includes $1 million dollars for capital improvements to the Broadway Market.

From the Buffalo News:

The borrowing will include $1 million to finance improvements at the Broadway Market. Council President David A. Franczyk said the roof leaks so severely in some parts of the East Side operation that at least one vendor has sustained water damage. Parking ramp improvements also are needed, he said.

Great news…
