There has been a lot of talk lately about the Buffalo Catholic Diocese reorganizing the churches within its governance to better meet the needs of diocese and Catholics in WNY.

Before critical decisions are made to close churches or consolidate parishes, Broadway Fillmore Alive thought we could help out. What we are asking you is to consider joining one of the parishes in close proximity to the Broadway-Fillmore area.

A grassroots call to people to make a difference. These churches were built with the blood, sweat and tears of WNY’s forefathers. Some us have deep ancestral roots connected to these parishes, but have moved on to churches closer to where we now live. Some would also say that a church isn’t necessarily about the building. But follow this, these churches were built by people in their respective communities because they were firm believers in the Catholic faith and wanted them to last forever. They weren’t built to someday be left to disappear off of WNY’s face and fade away. These buildings are part of Buffalo’s history and a legacy for the Buffalo Catholic Diocese. We can’t let them simply fade into our past. In a way, it is a dishonor to the hundreds of thousands of people who helped build and support these throughout their history. The Broadway-Fillmore area has already lost a few of its churches over last 20-30 years. Let’s not relive another round of that.

What I am asking is that you take a leap of faith… Whether you have ancestral ties to the area or not, take a chance and discover the wonderful things going on at each of these parishes and in the Broadway-Fillmore area. Help in the neighborhood’s rebirth. For myself, I took took the plunge so to speak and joined Corpus Christi Parish. If you don’t think a church is about a building, walk through the doors of anyone of these incredible churches and you discover that they are very much ALIVE.

Take a leap of faith,
