LIGHTING OF MAGNIFICENT, NEWLY RESTORED MURAL SCHEDULED FOR JANUARY 8TH AT CORPUS CHRISTI CHURCH

Public Invited to Rededication, Expert's Presentation
on the Mural's Significance & Restoration

In March 2011, Corpus Christi Church commissioned renowned art conservator Roman Kujawa to restore its iconic mural above the church altar. This exquisite artwork, which is a signature element of the church interior, is a rendering of a Vatican masterpiece by celebrated, Renaissance painter Raphael Santi. The mural was originally painted in the 1920’s by Marion Rzeznik, in collaboration with Gonippo Raggi, both of whom were considered premier, 20th century artists of ecclesias-tical paintings. This high profile restoration project is nearing completion, and will be officially unveiled with new lighting, and rededicated on Sunday January 8 during the 11:30a.m. Holy Mass. A presentation by Mr. Kujawa on the mural restoration will follow. All are cordially invited to attend.

Mr. Kujawa received his training in art conservation in his native Krakow, Poland, and has a Masters Degree from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. For the past twenty years, he has restored art treasures in European museums, palaces, and churches, as well as some of the most valuable works of art in public and private collections. In 1995, he restored the gilded crown molding in the Blue Room of the White House.

Public Meeting on Post Office closure 11/29 @ Matt Urban Center

The Broadway Fillmore Station post office is once again on the closing list by the United States Postal Service.

It is almost two years to the day that the office was saved from a previous closure attempt.

Tom Handley, who owns the building where the post office is located, emailed me about the meeting.

On Friday Nov 11 (Veteran’s Day), the Post Office hung notices on their door and interior wall announcing a public meeting to be held on November 29. This notice gave reasons for their decision to close this location (4 pages attached). They also sent out a survey to residents in the area on 11-10-11 (copy attached). As their landlord, I have not been contacted by the Post Office regarding this action.

Here is attached notice from post office (pdf)—>

More from Tom:

The community has been successful so far in keeping this Post Office branch open, but it’s biggest challenge is coming up.  In order to save our post office, we need 200 people to attend this meeting.  Other communities across the country have been successful in keeping their post offices open – but it takes the entire community, and we have to have strong attendance at this meeting.  (We will serve light refreshments.)

Take the time and attend the meeting at the Matt Urban Center on 11/29 at 6:30.   Losing the the post office would be a significant  blow to the neighborhood.
