Welcome to Broadway-Fillmore Alive! Our mission is to work together with community
groups, businesses, residents, churches and other organizations to help
promote, preserve and revitalize the Broadway-Fillmore area.
With work beginning on Aldi on the former Sattler’s site, I decided to stop by and shoot some pics. To my surprise, the owners of the old Kmart building put a fresh coat of paint on the structure. The building was looking a bit drab and the paint job along with the construction starting make the property look ALIVE.
It is my hope that Aldi will spur development in the old Kmart building along with the former Rite Aid on the site.
Only time will tell.
The photos include the Kmart building, Aldi construction, some old Sattler’s photos and the former Rite Aid.

Thanks to some hard work by volunters, the draft beer system is back in the center of the bar at the Adam Mickiewicz Library and Dramatic Circle on Fillmore, offering a variety of five beers. The first beers featured are Pilsener Urquell (Czech), Okocim O.K. (Polish), Rusty Chain (Flying Bison Brewery, NYS), Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse (German) and Ithaca Flower Power IPA (NYS). Thanks to Arthur Kogutowski for his fine photos.
The Am-Pol Eagle’s Citizens of the Year ceremony took place on Saturday, 04/21 at the historic basilica along with a Mass honoring all the recipients and celebrating Saint Adalbert’s feast day.

German Mass at historic St. Ann’s Church and Shrine on 651 Broadway and Emslie St. in Buffalo on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at 10 A.M. Music by the Buffalo Schwaben Chor.
This annual event celebrates the church and shrine’s German origins and heritage, and the contributions of Buffalo’s German Catholics to the WNY community.
Come visit one of Buffalo’s most stunning churches!

A Saint John Kanty parishioner, Judith Felski, posted this on YouTube earlier today.
Her husband got the bells fixed and ringing at SJK and she recorded them.
From YouTube:
The bells have been quiet for a while…they are now fixed, just in time to proclaim the Resurrection! Thanks to Chris Byrd for posting the bells of Corpus Christi last week. Chris’s creative and never ending enthusiasm for the Broadway Fillmore area, the East side churches, and the Broadway Market, is contagious!
Thank you for posting that Judith…but for me, it is the people who work tirelessly to keep neighborhood treasures like Saint John Kanty alive that serve as motivation and inspiration to do what I do on here and helping the neighborhood.

We took part in the Seven Churches tour last evening and it was spectacular! These churches and the people that still support them are the hidden gems of Buffalo. If you haven’t done this I would highly encourage everyone to get down to them this weekend and continue to support them….spread the word!!
Amen!
For me, I tried not to take too many pictures last night. Sometimes I just need to experience nights like this not looking through a lens.
Had a great time at the Broadway Market yesterday!!!
The Easter Season is simply incredible for the neighborhood. The influx of people visiting the churches, coming for Dyngus Day and shopping at the Broadway Market is wonderful.
