Want to see a train station return to the Central Terminal, DO THIS NOW

If you haven’t heard, after last night’s public meeting at the Buffalo Museum of Science, the momentum for a new Buffalo train station seems to be heading in the direction of a downtown/Canal Side location.

Here are link to two stories on the meeting:

If you want your voice to be heard on the matter by the committee charged with making the decision on new train station, you need to do what Congressman Brian Higgins posted on Facebook.

From Higgins:

Western New York’s resurgence is fueled by embracing our unique history. We have a once in a generation opportunity to restore an architectural treasure and inject vitality into a neighborhood. Like & share if you want to see the Buffalo Central Terminal as our next train station. Also show your support by formally submitting public comment to the Buffalo Train Station Selection Committee at: BuffaloRail@City‐Buffalo.com.

  1. the powers that be never seem to want to listen to the people. everyone wants the train station at the central terminal. why cant you govt. officials do that for the people? the common persons cries fall on deaf ears. then you officials wonder why people get so angry. do something for these people and put the station at the terminal, where it should rightfully be!!

  2. The train station belongs at the Central Terminal. This terminal location would help to resurrect the surrounding area and enhance the image of the city. Central Terminal is an architectural wonder, filled with memories of immigrants, travelers and laborers.
My vote is with the Central Terminal.

  3. I went to the meeting and they passed around a clip board with two columns. One had the Central terminal and one downtown. There were maybe 8/10 names for downtown and there were pages of signatures for the Central terminal. The PUBLIC WANTS THE TERMINAL. They say it’s cost will determine. Well if they just made the decision years ago and hired a firm to solve the problems and get it moving the money wouldn’t be so great today. Instead they spent tons of money on consultants, evaluations, studies etc. Think how much of that money could of been put to the restoration of the site the public wants. On the TV and at the meeting there was a definite bias in my opinion. More time was spent explaining the positive points of downtown and the negative points of the terminal. The public needs to put our foot down here. Our legislative leaders approve tons of money for all sorts of things. Downtown has no parking and it is very congested when multiple events are going on. The terminal has ton of parking and land for developing in a community that is begging for renewal. The Broadway market and the historic churches in the area will be a draw for tourists and architectural and history geeks. Buffalo is not just downtown. They are shuttling people to Galleria mall for shopping so why not have a mid stop to go in either directions. This is a no-Brainer unless you have some other ulterior motive. With the historic preservation money, the money put in by the Governor, why not start a lottery or raffle for the terminal to raise additional money. This is the only place capable of expanding the Amtrak where tracks can be switched. People like the train but the station in Depew is not anything to be proud of. The plans for the downtown site was blah. The terminal is a fantastic building that screams “Queen City of the Great Lakes”. We can make it an intermodal transport area as well. Maybe even a monorail going from the terminal to the downtown area. Come on folks, let’s stop playing these political money games and get the ball moving to the Central Terminal.

  4. Studies are biased. You hire the right company to give the result you want, not the result that makes the most sense. Central Terminal is the best and makes the most sense and links to Cleveland and Chicago!

  5. The public wants the Central Terminal just remember that at election time!!!! We are tired if our voices NOT being heard.
