Seven Churches in Polonia on Holy Thursday via Bike? Say hello to the Holy Roll!

Some of the regular participants in the hugely successful Slow Roll Buffalo have gotten together and organized a ‘Holy Roll’ for the traditional seven churches Holy Thursday visitation on April 13th, 2017. The group will visit churches in East Buffalo’s Historic Polonia and Kaisertown neighborhoods.

From the group’s Facebook event page:

Hello my fellow cyclists!

Let me start of by saying this ride/event is not meant to push religion on others. It is a ride that is meant to enlighten people on faith.

During the Lenten season Catholics celebrate the life, death and sacrifice Jesus made for humanity. One of the celebrations is an event called Seven Churches.

We will be riding to seven churches-this will give riders a chance to visit some churches in the area.

Fr. Jud has consulted with Chris Byrd (who founded the Mass Mob) who coordinates the Polonia 7 Churches. This will be our route: 8:30 p.m. meet at St. Bernard’s. Then St. John Kanty, St. Luke’s, St. Adalbert’s, Corpus Christi, St. Stan’s, St. Casimir’s and either leave from there if you wish or return to St. Bernard’s if you parked there. We would have a system so that people would be outside watching the bikes while the others went inside.

The group will visit the same churches Broadway Fillmore Alive does in its ‘One Night and Seven Churches’ pilgrimage on Holy Thursday. You can read more about that by clicking here—> http://broadwayfillmorealive.org/2.0/2017/03/one-night-and-seven-churches-holy-thursday-2017/

It looks like the ‘Holy Roll’ is going to a cool event and great way to experience the beautiful churches in Broadway-Fillmore and Kaisertown.

  1. Bad idea. Streets are already congested. Uncomfortable and crowded for the neighbors. The slow roll is inappropriate for an event like this one. Also it’s dark out!

    1. This turned out to be a fantastic way to see the jewels of our fine city. We had about 50 people. Great size group. Safety first…all the bikes had head lights, flashing tail lights, some even had bight colored lights in the spokes of the wheels. Safety first. It was a fantastic and emotional night. What an incredible city we live in. Happy Easter everyone.
