Photos: An old cross becomes a new cross at Saint Adalbert Basilica

A couple of years ago, a wooden cross that marked the grave of Michalina Buczkowska 1898-1914 was faithfully restored, and installed at Saint Adalbert’s cemetery on Dale Road Cheektowaga. The restoration project was spearheaded by Edward Kornowski with the generous support of the Polish Community after the cross was found rotted out and fallen over. Fast forward to 2016 — and a piece of the original cross has been used to help repair one of the Stations of the Cross at Saint Adalbert Basilica. Great story.

From Saint Adalbert Basilica’s website:

A piece of Michalina Buczkowska’s original wooden cross from St. Adalbert’s Cemetery has found a home in St. Adalbert Basilica. During the 2014 dedication of Michalina’s new wooden cross, smaller crosses made from the original cross were distributed to those in attendance. One of these has been painted gold and used to replace the cross that was missing from the base of the 6th Station of the Cross – Veronica Wipes the Face of Jesus. All fourteen stations now have small gold crosses once again.
