Bishop Malone to Lead Corpus Christi Procession in East Buffalo’s Polonia

Bishop Richard J. Malone will lead this year’s multi-parish Corpus Christi procession between two historic Polonia churches on Sunday, May 29.

The half-mile procession will begin at 1:15 p.m. from in front of St. Stanislaus Church, proceed to 4 outdoor altars, and conclude with Holy Mass at 2:15 p.m. at Corpus Christi Church. The Mass will be concelebrated by priests from parishes around the Diocese. All Western New York’s faithful are welcomed to join in the procession and Mass. The Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ is a feast established in the church in the 13th century. Polish Roman Catholics carried the tradition with them to America, where it continues to this day as a unique public display of piety. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will begin on Saturday, May 28, following 11:30 a.m. Mass, until 4:45 p.m.

Sunday’s Procession and Mass will highlight this year’s “Corpus Christi Weekend”, which begins with a concert on Friday, May 27 at 7 p.m. by the Camerata di Sant’ Antonio (Friends of St. Anthony). Entitled “Slavic Soul”, it will feature works by Polish, Czech, and Bulgarian composers. The Chopin Singing Society will perform prior to the concert. Admission is free, with a free-will donation requested. Light receptions will follow the Mass on Sunday, and the concert on Friday.

Corpus Christi Church is located at 199 Clark Street in Buffalo, one block east of the Broadway Market. For more information, please call 896-1050.
