One Night and Seven Churches – Holy Thursday 2016

For the tenth year in a row on Holy Thursday, Broadway Fillmore Alive has put together a self-guided tour of seven historic churches in the Broadway-Fillmore/Polonia and Kaisertown areas partaking in the traditional visitation of the Blessed Sacrament in seven churches on this holy night.

Churches this year include: Saint Stanislaus, Corpus Christi, Saint Adalbert Basilica, Saint Luke’s Mission of Mercy, Saint John Kanty, Saint Casimir, and Saint Bernards.

The visitation period generally begins after Holy Thursday Mass around 8:30 pm and most of the churches remain open to 11:00 pm.

In the first year, Broadway Fillmore Alive had about 50 requests for the tour info. The number of requests over the last few years has risen to over 2000.

The churches in Buffalo’s historic immigrant neighborhoods are awe inspiring and are deeply rooted in tradition. This is a way to experience their religious, artistic and cultural beauty while spending some time in prayer and reflection during this most sacred time of year on the Roman Catholic calendar.

Holy Thursday is on March 24th this year.

  1. The St John Kanty Parish Community bulletin has posted the Holy Week schedule. The hours for Holy Thursday Adoration are listed as 8-11 p.m. and for St Adalberts it is also 8-11 p.m. Visitors to St Adalberts should be aware that there is no Eucharistic Presence at the Altar of Repose in St Adalbert’s Church since there was no Holy Thursday Mass. This church, by decree of the Diocese of Buffalo, is to have only four Masses a year. St Adalbert’s was merged with St John Kanty a number of years ago.

  2. Actually St. Adalbert Basilica will be open from 5 pm to 11 pm on Holy Thursday, and will have Eucharistic presence in anticipation of our Easter Sunday mass. All are invited to tour and pray in this beautiful basilica that is truly welcoming to all.
