2011 Photos: Adventures at MLK Park — the Greenhouse

These photos were posted on Facebook on 01/27/2011. I was reminded of them today via Facebook’s memories feature that gives you a glimpse of old posts shared on the same day over the years. I like it.

Here is the original post:

After a meeting in Broadway-Fillmore this morning, I stopped to take some pics of the MLK Park greenhouse. A worker at the greenhouse was wondering why I was taking pictures. I told him about BFA and told him about something you may not know about either…my father worked here in the 1970s and early 80s…my dad originally worked at the Buffalo Zoo as a city employee. After the city gave control over to the Buffalo Zoological Society, my dad had to leave the zoo as Byrds sometimes do. He got transferred to Humboldt Park.

He worked nights at the park his last few of years there and would take me and my other brothers to work with him sometimes. I used to hang out in the greenhouse with my dad while he worked. We also got to play and hang out with this wonderful German Shepard guard dog named Lady. Interesting experience to say the least.

Well, the worker invited me to walk around after hearing my story. I hadn’t been in there since I was 10 or 11.

The greenhouse grows a majority of the plants you see at the Olmsted Parks and the traffic circles they manage…pretty cool.

What a treasure MLK Park and the greenhouse are!
