BFA friend, Lisa Menchetti of Gridlock Lacquer and Kaisertown fame, sent an illustration along to me detailing the history of the Central Terminal between the years 1979 and 1997. It is called “The Burden of the Central Terminal” and was created by local artist Daniel Galas. Lisa attended Trimania earlier this year and someone was passing the illustration out to attendees of the event.

The piece depicts what happened between rail service ceasing at the Central Terminal in 1979 until the eventual takeover of the complex by the Central Terminal Restoration Corporation in 1997.

For those unfamiliar with that history, it is a great way to get a feel for what exactly happened.

Thanks for the share share Lisa!

  1. I would love to see the terminal become viable again as a working train station. We actually hear talk about building a new one. Why not revamp the rails and use the magnificent one we already have? What a way to start a revitalization of the East Side How about build up the old neighborhood with a new Sattlers @998. That too should have remained, as it was a very historic address.
