“Funktastic Friday,” a musical fundraiser to benefit the Matt Urban Center, will take place at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at Buffalo Iron Works, 49 Illinois St., Buffalo. Entertainment will be provided by Smackdab and Randle and the Late Night Scandals.

For over 35 years, the Matt Urban Center has provided crucial services for the previously forgotten residents of Buffalo’s lower East Side who suffer from extreme poverty — 45.9 percent of whom live below the poverty rate. The Center offers programs for low-income people of all ages, pre-school through senior citizen. The Matt Urban Center also operates three satellite locations in the city: The Matt Urban HOPE Center at 385 Paderewski Drive; the T.J. Dulski Community Center at 129 Lewis St.; and Hope House, an emergency shelter for women and women with children.
