Kavinoky Theater has Broadway-Fillmore Roots

While flipping through the 50th anniversary book for Corpus Christi Church from 1948 looking for an old Spolka clothing store ad, I stopped when I came across an ad for Kavinoky’s Pharmacy which was located at 1061 Broadway. With a little internet research I was able tie together a link between D’Youville College’s Kavinoky Theatre and Kavinoky’s Pharmacy in the neighborhood.

The Kavinoky Theater was named after Attorney Edward Kavinoky. He was the first lay Chairman of the Board of Trustees of D’Youville College. After he died, the college named its theatre after him. His father, Dr. Samuel Kavinoky, owned Kavinoky’s Pharmacy on Broadway.

The ad included here says 1095 Broadway. But from all the research, 1061 Broadway was the address listed from numerous resources. The ad also says it is on the corner of Broadway and Sears. This location is now a little strip plaza and includes 1061 as its address.

I love when I find information like this. I also love sharing it.
