There is no other time of the year that East Buffalo’s Historic Polonia shines brighter than Easter season.

Between the Broadway Market, Dyngus Day and the neighborhood’s churches, the area draws hundreds of thousands of people from all over Western New York and beyond during Easter. It is a great opportunity to celebrate Polish heritage and celebrate the great history of the neighborhood. I know it is easy to write off old Polonia and say things like it isn’t what it used to be. But the places left are ties to the rich heritage our Polish ancestors brought to Buffalo. It is important that they are supported and cherished.

I love these photos of Saint Stan’s parishioners preparing pierogi in anticipation of Dyngus Day. The pictures strike to the very heart as to why preserving and supporting cultural sites in East Buffalo’s Historic Polonia is important.
