  1. Seems strange, on the day that people are coming together from various parishes (including a bus from Dunkirk) to celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi on the East Side, just a few blocks away Kanty’s is having a festival.

  2. Seems strange, Christi would not encourage people to go to Kanty’s after their celebration of the Feast of Corpus Christi and particpate in Kanty’s summer festival. The exposure would be nice for Kanty’s when you take into account as you say “various” parishes and people from Dunkirk will be attending. Oh wait, you are having your own chicken dinner. That is really “coming together.”

It saddens me to think that a lot of our parishioners support Corpus Christi events, but we hardly ever see Christi parishioners at our events. That is really “coming together.”

    Pot, kettle, black.

  3. Mike,

The people I know at Corpus Christi do love St. John Kanty’s and do show up at events and promote Kanty’s, myself included. There are many invisible ways that people help St. John Kanty’s as well.

The Sunday after the Feast of Corpus Christi, which falls on a Thursday, is known as the Sunday when the feast is celebrated with a procession.

The CC Procession is more than a local parish celebration, it is and should be a Polonia-wide and a Diocesan-wide event. Maybe we haven’t done enough to encourage that, though I must say that priests from many parishes have participated in the Mass and the procession. Ideally, the procession would wind its way around many parishes, like it does in Poland. Then, each parish could have a festival with a purpose after the procession.

Also, Mike, for as long as I can remember, there has been a reception after the Corpus Christi procession, whether at CC or at St. Stan’s.

Perhaps other parishes forget about the procession when planning their events, or don’t think of the Feast as important, or maybe they think it is the domain of CC Parish and St. Stan’s.

We can all do more to coordinate our planning and promote each others’ events in Polonia well in advance.

Thank God for people like Chris Byrd and Mike Pietruszka, who through Broadway Fillmore Alive and the Polonia Calendar (polegl.org) give us tools to plan better in the future.

  4. As a wise priest put it at today’s post-procession dinner at Corpus Christi, things are usually scheduled long in advance and usually around the same time every year. Unfortunately St. John Kanty’s usually has their function on the second Sunday of June which happened to coincide this year with the feast of Corpus Christi.

In any event, the feast was beautiful. Thank God that parishioners of CCC and SJK help each other out often because it helps keep the churches and the neighborhood in general ALIVE!

  5. Ron says: What is the big deal if St. John Kantys had their Summer Festival and Chicken Dinners on the same day. I belong to St. Stans and I went to Kantys at noon when it began. Then I went to Stans for the procession. The procession ended at Corpus around 4:45 p.m. and Kanty’s finished around 6:00 p.m. There was plenty of time for everyone to enjoy all places. I try to support all places.
