Of Placek and Barszcz

By Christopher Byrd | April 14, 2009

Barszcz (Borscht) Placek

(click on images for full view)

A fact I find quite amazing is that I have spent every Easter of my 41 years of life at my grandparent’s house in Buffalo’s historic Polonia…though my grandmother passed away last year, my Aunt Denise decided to continue the family tradition of congregating at the home on Easter.

The pics above are of the placek and barszcz (borscht) served on Easter…both homemade of course….even the kielbasa served was made by our family a couple of weeks back.

All of it amazing and special.

I am not a fan of traditional barszcz (borscht)…but the kind served up for Easter is a different story.

Hmmm…maybe a Barszcz booth for Dyngus Day next year?!?!?!?

Trivia point. Bialy barszcz, a.k.a. zurek, is the only Polish food not found in any other culture.
