An alive tree is born…

Every now and again this crazy Buffalo world we live in has the capacity to throw surprises at even us most hardened B-lo types that thought we couldn’t be surprised.  Today was one of those days for me.

I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Cousin Kelly.  If you don’t know Mr. Kelly, you just may.  His artwork is all around WNY in the form of wooden sculptures he creates.  He has worked with various groups throughout the city.  Many groups or oragnizations from the Buffalo Police to the Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum have his works on display.

Upon meeting him for the first time today, I knew this guy is a Buffalo treasure.

His latest project is transforming a tree at Peckham Street and Memorial Drive in the heart of the Broadway-Fillmore area into a wooden scuplture that will pay homage to Buffalo’s immigrant past and future.

Broadway Fillmore Alive will be documenting his progress…  Stay tuned…
