A better idea: Presidential Library at Broadway & Fillmore…

Today I read with interest an article in the Buffalo News about North Council Member Joseph Golombek Jr. proposing opening a Presidential Library honoring Buffalo’s Grover Cleveland and Millard Fillmore as part of redeveloping the Richardson Complex.

Well…I (we) have a better idea!  Why not use a property currently vacant at the corner of Broadway and Fillmore, The Eckhardt BuildingThis building is perfect for such a project.  What a vision!

About a month ago, our good friend Yuri brought this idea up.  But if we want to go forward, it is obvious we have to act now.

The connection?  Millard Fillmore…Fillmore Avenue…

The potential for this type of reuse of the building would not only add to the rich history in the Broadway-Fillmore Area, but also add a much needed shot in the arm for redevelopment to further efforts already going on.

No knock on the Elmwood corridor, but that area of Buffalo has a lot of things going and growing for it right now.  Broadway-Fillmore is experiencing its own rebirth.  Imagine having a Presidential Library right in the heart of the neigborhood!  Imagine what the area’s residents would feel seeing this come to their part of the city.

Let’s see what we can do?

More to come…
